Ordering a custom cam profile design from Ingram Engineering is easy. It can all be done online or over the phone if you like. I prefer to use email when dealing with numbers because it helps avoid any misunderstanding. If you already know the specifications of the profile you want, just supply me with that information. If you are not sure about what you need, I will be glad to help you. After I have all the necessary information I will run some numbers and send you the results of the initial design. At that point we can make some changes or continue on and complete the design. Each standard cam profile design is very affordable at $88 so you can create a new series of cam profiles or add to an existing one. More involved designs taking more time will be $60 per hour. When your order is finished, I will email an invoice with PayPal. You do not need a PayPal account and there are no fees involved. If you are not familiar with PayPal, click on their logo below for more information.
I will then send all of the design data to you. The design data will consist of the opening and closing input data for the profile ramps, tappet and base circle diameters, the complete profile lift table in one degree increments showing the lift, velocity, acceleration, jerk, pressure angle, and radius of curvature. There is also a summary showing the duration at various lift points, total area, minimum and maximum output values, and valve lash information. Also furnished with each cam profile design is an .s96 and a Landis .p file that will allow the cam profile to be programmed into most CNC cam grinding machines to produce camshafts or profile master plates. The Landis .p file is for the popular Landis 3L cam grinding machines. The .s96 file will work with most CNC converted machines. The lift table can always be entered manually into any CNC machine. The output data along with the input data is in the United States customary units of measure. Meaning, no metric data is used.
You can now knowingly make camshafts with profiles that are properly designed for specific components and applications. No more having to use copied profiles or profiles that are not exactly what you need. Your cam profiles and all of the design data is exclusive to you and will be kept completely confidential and secure.
