It would be nice if the camshaft manufacturers supplied more data with their lobe profiles. I don't see it happening with the larger companies but it might be a way for the smaller companies to gain a little advantage. By more data I simply mean more information about the lobe profile.
Right now when you look at a lobe profile from most manufacturers, you might get the advertised duration (whatever that means), the duration at .050 tappet lift, the lobe lift, and rarely the duration at 0.200 tappet lift. One thing you definitely will get is a lot of useless marketing crap. Maybe the manufacturers could replace the marketing crap with actual lobe data. I'm thinking a minimum lobe data that shows the duration at .006, .020, .050, .100, .200, .300, .400, .500, etc. and the lobe lift. For flat tappet profiles, the maximum velocity. For roller profiles, the pressure angle at common base circle diameters. Not really too much to ask for.
